KAVEH
ALHAITHAM
I remember your laugh in the car. The way you looked at me after we were soaked to the bone. You were shivering and frustrated, hair everywhere, looking like the most irritated, drowned cat, and still, we laughed.
"If you'd told me two years ago that I'd be standing up here with you today, I think I would have laughed... and what a fool I would've been for it."
A PROPER SHOW
"By all accounts, he's still a new streamer, but he's already gained some small measure of popularity as "Pharos", a young man who keeps his anonymity protected by the lacy masks he tends to wear over his face, the lenses that change the color of his eyes, the careful arrangement of his blonde hair so that only the softest, loosest tendrils drift over his cheeks. He has a penchant for lingerie, but for the right number will often lose it entirely, showing off the lean litheness of his limbs, the curve of his arousal as he lets his viewers suggest how he should take himself apart on any given day."

MEET-NOT-SO-CUTE
"According to the email he received this morning, though, the Akademiya has finally filled the linguistics position he's been temping as professor in— in addition to teaching his own architecture classes— which means one less day of them. On one hand, it's a good thing: Kaveh has been working himself to the bone. On the other, he'll no longer get the overtime money he's been earning, so user2.718's display last night may have saved his ass this time."

DRUNK AND WASTED
"It had been difficult, however, to pay much attention to the issue in the first place. His fantasies had transposed to the actual desk he had been teaching behind, and somehow, Pharos had taken a liking to show up in his mind, leaning and draping himself over it and whispering to make him lose his mind."

JUST BETWEEN US
"The one upside has been the additional necklace that suddenly arrived in the mail, a match to the other but in gold with a note saying that the sender thinks it would look amazing on him too (ha, take that, you snarky son of a bitch, Kaveh thought when he opened it; he does know me); it's this that the blonde uses as an excuse to invite Mister E to another stream for just the two of them— another ostensible "thank you" when really, he just wants to see him again, as much as what they're doing is him seeing the other."

DIMLY LIT CORRIDORS
"His excitement builds with each step, mingled with a nervousness that grips his stomach. This is the closest they have ever been to truly meeting, yet the layers of their concealment remain. It's a paradox that excites and terrifies him in equal measure. Every masked face could be Kaveh, every turn a step closer to the reality they have both dreamed and dreaded."

MOVING IN
"The sign reads plainly, "Room for Rent", followed by details outlining the requirements and contact information. Alhaitham pins the notice on the corkboard in the teachers' lounge with a deliberation that matches his approach to most things: thoughtful, precise, with a tinge of underlying purpose."

MOVIE NIGHT
"Tonight, despite the exhaustion working its way over him like a shroud, Kaveh is staring at the contract. He wants it done. The sooner he finishes, the sooner they can see each other. But the words are blurring together on the page, and after a few minutes he all but slams his chair back, frustration written onto his face."

WRECKED
"Kaveh's confession, spoken to what he thought was Alhaitham's sleeping form, echoe in his mind, a haunting melody of vulnerability and desire, throughout the night. Alhaitham lies awake under the cover of darkness, a usual sanctuary of solitude becoming a theater of restless thoughts. Peace, a concept he has always held in high regard, seems almost ironic now. Typically a model of discipline and control, his life has spiraled into a poignant chaos both exhilarating and terrifying. Yet, an uncharacteristic part of him shadowed in the corner of his psyche isn’t entirely displeased by the disorder. The thrill of the unknown and the raw, unscripted nature of his connection with Kaveh is disturbingly invigorating."

THE END OF THINGS
"Alhaitham is out at some sort of faculty event for the weekend, and so Kaveh has taken the opportunity— with permission, of course— to invite his other paramour to the apartment, for an experience not gated by the closing time of a bar. And perhaps, he hopes, more intimate, too."

A BEGINNING—AND ANOTHER END
"Returning to the hotel, Alhaitham could feel the weight of the day pressing on both of them. Kaveh had been emotional seeing his mother so heavily pregnant, and Alhaitham could sense how exhausted he was, physically and emotionally. The tension had worn them both down, and though they had explored some of Fontaine’s beautiful streets and sampled its exquisite food, Alhaitham knew Kaveh’s heart had been elsewhere."

HOME
"And so, a ferry and bus ride later, and then a taxi from the terminal back home, and Kaveh stands on the doorstep, luggage at his feet and keys in hand. He's pale, tired, his hair a mess from the travel, dark circles under his eyes from the lack of sleep over the course of the week. A single look will indicate to anyone who knows him that he's lost weight. But he's here."

ROLE REVERSAL
"Not deliberate, but out of a need to hold close to him the person he loves most, who keeps him sane when frustration rears its ugly head. He may not have the ideas he wants right now, but he does have Alhaitham, and that's what counts."

I'M BROKEN, SO FIX ME
"His eyes linger on the screen. The timing is deliberate. It has to be. He knows Kaveh. Knows that his emotions are never truly concealed, only redirected. He had asked for space, and Kaveh had chosen to make it public. To pour himself into the version of him that thousands adored. The one who laughed easily, who charmed effortlessly, who is wanted."

CHASING PERFECTION
"The owners of the bar had agreed to close the place for the day, open to only the two of them. The inside of the place itself was laid out with tables of food, favorites of his or Alhaitham's or of both. There was way too much for them to eat in one sitting, but the caterers had assured him they'd be able to bring the rest of it home with them to eat later. The walls were decorated with pictures: some photos, some Kaveh had drawn, but all of the two of them, all from various times in the last year. And the door to the alley was left open, a romantic, enclosed dance floor set up in that small space where they had first kissed."

UNION: FROM TWO TO ONE
"The party started as a picnic at the park gazebo, with simple finger foods and champagne, but once the sun started to go down they made their way to a bar to drink and play games. Kaveh has had more cocktails than he can count and still more shots than that, and right now he's giggling into yet another glass as he watches Nilou attempt—and fail—to "pin the junk on the hunk", placing her penis pin somewhere around the figure's left nostril."
